Migrating Azure SQL Data & Reports to Microsoft Fabric

Our client is a global leader in engineering and R&D services. With a strong focus on innovation, they offer expertise in product development, manufacturing, and digital solutions across various industries. Their work spans from cutting-edge technologies like AI and robotics to everyday products and services.

The Client

Our client is a global leader in engineering and R&D services. With a strong focus on innovation, they offer expertise in product development, manufacturing, and digital solutions across various industries. Their work spans from cutting-edge technologies like AI and robotics to everyday products and services.

Challenges Faced by the Client

Before adopting Fabric, our client struggled with managing data across disparate platforms, including Azure SQL Server, Data Factory, and Power BI. This fragmented approach hindered their ability to gain clear insights, generate reports efficiently, and ensure data accuracy, ultimately impacting decision-making and were unable to do advanced analytics effectively like AI and ML activities.

Solutions

To overcome these challenges and establish a unified data infrastructure, UBTI recommended migrating the current data environment to Microsoft Fabric. The highlights of our implementation are:

  • Data Integration: Integrated data from Azure SQL Server to Fabric Onelake using Data Pipelines, ensuring smooth data ingestion and consistency
  • Scheduled Pipelines: For incremental load, Designed and implemented a robust data pipeline to facilitate both daily and hourly data loads, optimizing data processing and timeliness.
  • Dynamic Reporting: Enables the creation of dynamic, easily refreshed reports accessible to authorized users, removing the need for manual report generation and saving time and resources.
  • Built-in Security: Ensures data accuracy and consistency with built-in security features. Access controls and data lineage offer a clear audit trail for improved data governance.
  • Scalable Architecture: Accommodates future data growth and integrates seamlessly with existing Microsoft tools like Power BI for continued use and expanded functionalities.
  • Data Science Implementation: With the help of Microsoft Fabric Notebooks trained the following ML Models:
    • Prediction of Risk Users: Developed and deployed machine learning models to predict of risk users, enabling data-driven decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Data Quality Assurance with Data Activator: Implemented comprehensive data quality rules using Data Activator to maintain data integrity and adhere to established standards.
  • Fabric Copilot Adoption: Incorporating Copilot functionality into Dataflow Gen2, Notebooks, and Power BI.
